For the first time in program history, Mansfield Senior will be competing for a regional crown in football.
The second-seeded Tygers handled #6 Parma Heights Holy Name 45-30 at Follis Field in Wooster to punch their ticket to the Division III Region 10 Championship.
A fast start catapulted Senior High to a 21-0 advantage with a pair of Terrance Flickinger TD runs sandwiched around a 62 yard score by Cyrus Ellerbe where he simply out-ran the entire Green Wave defense on a quick screen pass. Holy Name (9-3) responded with back to back second quarter touchdowns by Garret Sparks on a 1-yd run and Armani Burton with a 23 yard catch in the end zone to trim the deficit to 21-14, but Angelo Grose came up with a monster 45 yard TD grab just before the half to make it a two-possession contest.
An Aiden Crider 33 yard field goal accounted for the only points of the third quarter to push the Tygers lead out to 31-14 before a 15 yard Chris Boden TD catch cut the Green Wave hole down to 31-22 early in the fourth quarter. With the game beginning to tighten, Grose came up with another incredible response as he burst up the middle for a 43 yard TD run to give Mansfield a little breathing room.
Cam Todd then sealed the victory with a 15 yard TD run before Holy Name added a meaningless TD in the closing seconds, clinching the program's first trip to Week 13.
Todd finished 8-12 for 141 yds and 2 TD's, rushing 12 times for 101 yds and a score while Flickinger carried the ball 24 times for 137 yds and 2 TD's, and Grose produced130 total yards and a pair of scores.
Mansfield Senior (11-1) will next face #5 Sandusky (9-3), who knocked off top-seeded Norwalk 31-15. The Tygers bested the Blue Streaks 21-14 at Arlin Field back in Week 5.
