Todd's Buzzer Beater Lifts Tygers Over Hoban
They needed a dramatic finish to capture their first win of the season, but Mansfield Senior knocked off Akron Hoban 51-50 at the Hall of Fame City Hardwood Classic hosted by Walsh University with senior guard Cam Todd drilling a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Todd had an efficient offensive night, making 5 of 7 field goal attempts including a pair of triples, finishing with a dozen Tygers points to earn Player of the Game honors. His backcourt mate Roger Merrell III was the game scholarship recipient for his game-high 20 points performance, connecting on 5 of 9 attempts from beyond the arc.
Senior High took a 17-12 advantage over the Knights into the second quarter where they got outscored 18-10 as Hoban got 17 pts from Isaiah Young and 13 by Logan Vowles in the contest. A slight 14-13 edge in the third had the Knights on top 44-40 heading into the fourth where Todd closed things out with a buzzer-beating triple.
The win is the first of the season for the 1-2 Tygers who return to OCC action next Friday at Mount Vernon.
