Trojans Slay St. Paul, Tie For Firelands Lead
A fast start for South Central in a monster Firelands Conference showdown with visiting St. Paul helped the Trojans force a tie atop the league standings with a key 66-60 win over the Flyers.
St. Paul (13-7, 11-2) entered the contest with a chance to lock up the conference championship outright, but quickly fell behind by double-digits with South Central (17-3, 11-2) building a 17-6 advantage by the end of the first quarter. Simon Blair then carried the Trojans scoring load in the second by dropping a dozen of his game-high 26 points, helping extend their margin to 34-22 by the break.
The Winslow twins would begin to find their groove offensively in the third, with Nick and Nate combining for 15 of the Flyers 22 points in the frame, pulling to within 53-44 entering the final quarter. St. Paul would get to within two possessions just past the midway point of the fourth, but the Trojans held them off down the stretch to lock up a major win.
Isaiah Seidel added a dozen to Blair's big scoring night, while South Central also got eight from Jackson McCormack and six each by David Lamoreaux and Blane Wheeler. Nick Winslow finished with 22 to lead the Flyers while Nate dropped 20 and Brandon Furlong added eight.
