Shelby Celebrates MOAC Title
In Win Over River Valley
For the second consecutive season, the Shelby girls basketball team celebrated an outright MOAC championship after defeating River Valley in a clash til the final horn, 60-57 in front of their home fans.
The Lady Vikings (13-6) built their confidence in the opening quarter, building a 16-9 advantage and played even with the Lady Whippets in the second to carry a 31-24 lead into the half.
Shelby (17-1) exploded offensively out of the break to claim a 45-44 edge heading into the fourth as the sophomore Baker twins, Haylee and Olivia, each poured in eight third quarter points. The contest would fittingly come down to the final play where River Valley owned possession with a chance to tie but Sophie Niece came up with a game-clinching steal to preserve the win.
O. Baker finished with 17 pts & 5 rebs to lead the Lady Whippets who saw Emma Randall go for 15 & 7 rebs, H. Baker scored 11 with 5 rebs and Sydnie Seibert added 10 on 4-5 FG attempts.
Three Lady Vikings ended in double-figures scoring, led by Alexis Stevens' 19, followed by 12 from Allyson Johnson and 10 by Olivia Kyrk.
