D2 Regional Semifinal Brunswick H.S.
Madison vs Rocky River
Madison Downs Pirates 3-0
For Regional Title Shot
The Madison girls soccer team will play for its second Regional Championship in three years after knocking out Rocky River 3-0 at Brunswick High School for a spot in the final.
The Lady Rams had total control throughout most of the match, playing what coach Zac Huff described as "the best they played all year". Junior Phyllis Stanfield gave Madison the lead with 21:55 to play in the opening half before getting carried off the field by her teammates with a leg injury, then Kalie Blaising extended their advantage to 2-0 with 11 minutes left.
The defensive unit for the Lady Rams "played lights out", according to junior scoring machine Taylor Huff, who added the icing on a shutout win with 17:07 remaining on a beautiful goal set up by a series of passes in traffic. The clock then melted away along with Madison's memories of last year's loss to Bay in the same spot, punching their ticket to Saturday's title match.
At 16-1-4, the Lady Rams will next face Oak Harbor (14-4-1) who needed a 4-3 shootout victory over Celina in their Regional Semifinal.
