Youthful Lady Warriors Reloading For New Season
The most consistent girls’ soccer program in North Central Ohio without question has been the Ontario Lady Warriors. Since Larry Atkinson took over some 13 years ago, the standard each season has been to win a state championship.
With a dozen returning letter winners and 18 freshmen in the mix for Ontario this year the team has a promising balance for both present and future success. The top two goal scorers from a season ago also return for the Lady Warriors in senior Bria Meisse and junior Alaina Reed, and the tandem has found a groove with one another during the offseason that should help generate a ton of offense when the regular season begins.
Atkinson says his program has done an incredible job of maintaining their winning tradition by allowing inexperienced players to log heavy minutes early in the season to discover which of them are ready to make an impact at the varsity level. He says this season will be no different, understanding with the high volume of underclassmen that his bunch may struggle some out of the gates as they determine which lineups work best with one another.
Ontario opens the season on August 17 at Lexington.
