Lady Rams Soccer
Conditioned For Success
July 18, 2020
The Madison girls soccer program is aiming their sights high after making three consecutive trips to Regionals, including a pair of Final Four appearances.
A loaded senior class is putting in the necessary offseason work as they prepare for one last run towards a state championship in 2020.
As the OH.Report showcased first-hand by taking on "The Gauntlet" conditioning test with the team, this pack of Lady Rams understands the value of endurance and mental strength.
"It's mentally seeing how prepared they are", said head coach Zac Huff. "Some of them you can see lined up on the line and beat before they even start. It means a lot to a coach more mentally to see if they'll fight through it."
"It's really keeping us in shape and keeping us together," senior Taylor Russel said of the 6-phase endurance test. "We're gonna be ready for state again."
Madison found a way to the Division II state title match last year but fell 2-0 to Alter in Columbus. Senior forward Kari Eckenwiler remembers the development it took for them to make it there after falling one game short in the state semifinals as a freshman in 2017. She believes her squad will be better equipped to bring home the title this year as the next step in their progression.
"Next year I think if we make it to state finals we're not gonna be so like, "Oh we're here", we're gonna be like, "We're here, let's go," says Eckenwiler. "We're ready for it."
