Minutemen Stun Ontario At Friday Night Futbol
The “Backyard Rivalry” between Lexington and Ontario kicked off the high school soccer season with an exciting match that needed all 80 minutes to decide an outcome. In the end, though, it would be an early Minutemen goal that would prove to be the difference as the purple and gold hung on for a 1-0 victory to avenge last season’s district championship defeat.
In front of a rambunctious crowd, Lex took an early edge on a Gavin George goal at the 35:27 mark of the opening half that may have changed the entire complexion of the game. The Warriors seemed somewhat deflated by the quick deficit while the Minutemen’s energy level picked up. Ontario produced a few excellent scoring opportunities but were unable to capitalize on their favorable circumstances.
Keeper Trevor Cramer was exceptional in net for Lexington, stopping all seven Warriors shots on target while Matt Weaver saved 6 of 7 Minutemen shot attempts.
