Lex Takes Down Ashland For OCC Title

In a thrilling 5-set battle between the top two teams in the Ohio Cardinal Conference, Lexington survived a winner take all match against defending league title holder Ashland.


The Lady Arrows led off with a 25-20 opening match victory before Lady Lex turned up the intensity for a 25-16 second set beat down. The momentum then swung in favor of visiting Ashland who came storming back from a late deficit to spike Lexington 25-22 in the third then built a cushion on their way to a pair of match points.


Lady Lex played clutch when it counted, scoring three straight points to keep their title hopes alive, then iced the fourth set with a 27-25 win to force a deciding fifth set. After jumping out to a 4-1 lead, Lexington never gave up the lead, knocking off the Lady Arrows for the second time this season with a 15-12 match ending win.


Amelia Moore was key down the stretch for Lady Lex, racking up 19 kills, 24 digs and 10 service aces to lead the charge, while Audra Kocker handed out 47 assists and Sara Malaska added 11 kills.


Sophomore Karli Shepard was a monster of Ashland, smashing 31 of 67 kill attempts with 3 service aces.


The win puts Lexington at 12-9, 10-1 in OCC while Ashland dips to 17-3, 9-2.
