Lexington Ends Mansfield’s Streak, Ties For OCC Lead
The two hottest teams in the OCC met at Lexington with first place in the OCC up for grabs where the Minutemen put an end to Mansfield Senior’s 9-game win streak with a dominating 53-39 victory.
It was an exciting, fast-paced first quarter of play that saw the Tygers out in front 14-13 before offensive struggles became the story for Senior High for the rest of the evening. An 11-7 second quarter edge put Lex on top 24-21 at the break and they never trailed again as no Mansfield player scored more than 7 points.
The Tygers finished the night 14-54 from the field for an abysmal 26%, which included a 2-10 (10%) shooting performance from beyond the arc. The Minutemen took advantage of Mansfield’s shooting woes by outscoring Senior High 18-8 in the third and closed out the win with an 11-10 fourth quarter advantage, outrebounding the Tygers 36-29.
Cade Stover led the charge for Lexington with 20 points and 12 rebounds while Ben Vore added 11 pts and Josh Aiello contributed with 7 and 9 as the now 9-3 Minutemen tied Mansfield (9-1), who hadn’t lost since opening night, for the top spot in the league.
