Lex Handles Mt. Vernon To Stay Undefeated

A pair of superb offensive innings kept Lexington’s undefeated regular season intact, knocking off defending OCC champion Mount Vernon 8-1.

The contest began as a pitcher’s duel with Yellow Jackets right-hander Connor Curry and Minutemen senior ace Jared Strickler keeping the game scoreless through 3 ½ innings. Lexington’s bats then came alive in the bottom half of the 4th, producing 5 runs on 6 hits to break the game wide open.

Strickler continued to deal, throwing 6 shutout innings with 5 K’s allowing 4 hits while the purple and gold kept it going from the dish in their offensive half of the 6th, scoring 3 more runs to grab a commanding lead. Mount Vernon would bring home a run in the 7th off reliever Jack Kleinknecht, but Lex would close out the contest for the fifth straight win to start the season.

Lexington (5-0, 3-0) will next travel to Mount Vernon (3-5, 0-1) on Wednesday to close out their regular season split with the Jackets.
