Ontario And Madison Finish Even

By Garrett Parlett, Storm Bluntschly & Brian Skowronski

ONTARIO -- A potential District Championship preview between state-ranked Madison and Ontario did not disappoint with both teams generating great stretches of play in a 1-1 draw at the Ontario Soccer Complex.

The 8th-ranked Lady Warriors showed more consistent energy to kick off the contest, striking first with Maggie Hoffman punching in a shot off a feed from Kyla Spencer midway through the first half. Ontario (9-1-2) carried their 1-0 advantage into the break behind a sharp performance by keeper Taylor Mullins who ended the night with 11 saves.

A heightened sense of urgency was showcased by the top team in the state over the final forty minutes as the Lady Rams (10-0-2) steadily attacked until Taylor Huff eventually broke through with an incredible individual effort, dribbling through the Lady Warriors backline to send home the equalizer with 25:36 to play. Both teams would produce potential go-ahead scoring opportunities as the match continued, but neither could make the heroic play to win the game.

Next up for Madison is a visit from Mt Vernon on Oct 8 while Ontario hosts D3 power Liberty-Benton on Saturday.
