Lady Rams Overcome Slow Start,
Kick Clear Fork 3-1 In Season Opener
It was a rocky start to the new season for Madison in their season opener against Richland County foe Clear Fork, but the talented Rams scored three unanswered goals in the last 41 minutes for a 3-1 victory at Startek Stadium.
Despite having 19 returning letter winners and the visiting Colts trying to replace a dozen departed seniors, it would be Madison who fell behind on their home turf in this Friday Night Futbol battle. Less than four minutes into the match, Avery Wend put Clear Fork on the board with a penalty kick for a 1-nill advantage. The Lady Colts proceeded to hold their own, dictating most of the action for much of the opening half to maintain their lead, but then Taylor Huff happened.
With just 29 seconds remaining in the first half, the junior All-American knifed through the Colts defense and found the back of the net to send the match into the half all square. Huff then found a wide-open Mariah Cook in front of an empty net at the 20:45 mark to give Madison a 2-1 edge before celebrating her 17th birthday with a second goal under 14 minutes to play that secured the win.
The Lady Rams (1-0) are expected to be one of the top teams in Division II this season as back to back defending district champions.
