Lady Flames Put Away Crusaders 48-40
For the second time this season, Mansfield Christian was able to knock off Temple Christian, defeating the Crusaders 48-40 inside "The Furnace" at MCHS.
Both teams struggled to find their groove early as Temple Christian held a slim 7-6 advantage after the first quarter but would fall behind 19-15 by the half. In the third quarter, Alexis Rippel dropped eight of her team-high 15 points to help the Lady Flames extend their edge to 35-26 entering the last period where Temple Christian tried to make one final push.
Jenna Wolford, who had carried the Crusaders offensively throughout the night, would be held to just two fourth quarter points after scoring 15 in the previous three frames. Her teammates would step up to outscore MC 14-13 in the stanza, but with Elle Schmitz dropping eight of her 12 over the final eight minutes, the Lady Flames would hold on for the victory.
To go along with Rippel and Schmitz solid games, Mansfield Christian received eight points from Julia Secrist and four apiece by Bri Keib, Anna Sparks and Melissa Hord. Temple Christian got 17 from Wolford, eight by Mia Kurtz and four each by Kat Spencer and Evie Day.
