Walnut Hills Takes GMAC Title
On Record-Setting Day
The 2019 Greater Mansfield Aquatic Conference Championships saw several records tumble and host squad Walnut Hills claim the overall title.
An astounding 14 individual or relay records were broken at the event, including a trio of new marks set by former Lexington standout Sage Moore. The University of Evansville-bound stud set a new bench mark in Girls 15-18 Division in the 50 butterfly (26.82) by eclipsing her own record, then smoked the 200 IM record by 4-seconds with a 2:06:68 before becoming just the second girl in the history of the event to break 2-minutes in the 200 freestyle with a blistering 1:58.71.
Moore’s Walnut Hills team would finish second to newcomer Colonel Crawford in the girls division, but her teammates on the boys side won a second straight title to earn the overall team crown. Youngstown State-commit Wilson Cannon was a big reason why, finishing atop the podium in all four of his events, the 50 fly, 100 free, 200 free and 200 relay.
Clear Fork sisters Mirielle Trumpower (9-10 Division) and Brienne (13-14 Division) also had a monster day in the pool by breaking a pair of records each. Brienne established new marks in the 50 fee (25.22) and 100 free (55.58), while Mirielle set new standards for the 25 free (13.24) and 50 free (28.19).
