Girls Rule The North Central Ohio

Soap Box Derby

The 81st running of the North Central Ohio Soap Box Derby in downtown Mansfield came down to a foursome of girls competing for championships.

The stock division final was decided by Layla van Harlingen and champion Maggie Restelli. The 10-year-old Mansfield racer said winning the title means she gets to be like her older brother who she’s always looked up to and previously won the event.

In the super stock division, Ashland’s Collette Decker edged Ava Gayton to claim the big trophy. The 15-year-old champion had plans to party with her family to celebrate the taxing win that took over six hours of racing to finally enjoy.

Each champion will now compete in the FirstEnergy Soap Box Derby in Akron July 15-21.
