Several Galion Tiger track & field athletes have qualified for the state track meet which takes place in Columbus May 31st - June 1st.
State-bound is the Lady Tigers 4x100 relay team comprised of Kerrigan Meyers, Brooklyn Cosey, Kaitlin Bailey, and Jalyn Oswald. The ladies completed the 4x100 relay with a winning time of 49.03 at Regionals.
Meyers, who was the first girl in program history last year to qualify for state in four events is headed back in three events. In the 100 Hurdles, Meyers broke the regional record in Thursday's prelims and then turned around on Saturday and re-broke that record with a time of 14.05. Myers also qualified for state in the 200-meter dash.
Brooklyn Cosey, along with freshman Hanif Donaldson will move on to state in the long jump. Cosey qualified with a distance of 17’1¾” to take the runner-up spot in the long jump at Regionals.
Also qualifying for state for the Tigers:
Braxton Tate, qualified in the 3200 meter run with a time of 9:49.77, Jack McElligott finished third in the High Jump clearing 6 feet, 4 inches. Colbey Fox, qualified in the 400-meter dash, re-breaking his school record, with a time of 49.41. Fox, along with Kalib Griffin, Isaiah Alsip, and Evan Barker would finish the 4X200 meter relay fourth with a time of 1:30.43
These athletes will compete at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus this weekend.
