The Cleveland Cavaliers have made their #5 selection in the 2019 NBA Draft.
The Cavs took 6-foot-2 point guard Darius Garland from Vanderbilt. Garland was a 4-time state champion at Brentwood Academy High School and 3-time Tennessee Mr. Basketball winner. He was also ranked among the best point guards in the 2018 class and was a McDonald's All-American.
For college, he committed to Vanderbilt and was the best recruit in program history. Garland was limited to just 5 games his freshman year because of a meniscus injury in his left knee. Before his injury, the 19-year-old averaged 16.2 points, 2.6 assists, and 3.8 rebounds while shooting 54 percent from the field.
Cleveland followed up this pick by taking Belmont senior SF Dylan Windler with the 26th selection.
