BAY vs LEXINGTON
Top-Ranked Bay Knocks Out Lexington
In a battle of top-10 squads for a spot in the Division II Region 6 Championship match, the #1 Bay Rockets had a fast start that was too much for Lexington to overcome, advancing with a 4-2 victory over the Minutemen.
In just over 21 minutes of action, Bay exploded for a trio of goals and appeared to be on their way to another dominating postseason win. The Rockets had outscored their opponents 18-0 in tournament play heading into the second half but Lexington wasn’t ready to throw in the towel on their season.
Just over five minutes into the second stanza, sophomore Gavin George ended the Rockets scoreless streak to pull the Minutemen within 3-1. Lex would produce some scoring chances over the next several minutes but were unable to capitalize then allowed what head coach Peter Them referred to as” a dagger” at the 23:26 mark that extended the deficit back to three goals. Blake Webster would make it a 4-2 contest seven minutes later, but would get no closer on a wet night at Follis Field in Wooster.
Lexington finishes their season at 14-6-0 as co-OCC & District champions as nine seniors played their final match wearing the purple and gold. Bay (17-1-2) advances to the Regional Championship to face Kenton.
