419 Challenge Brings Together Rare Local Matchups

On Saturday inside the O-Rena, eight local boys’ basketball teams will get together for a four-pack of matchups at the 419 Challenge. Given the local flavor of the programs involved, it could be assumed that these Mansfield area teams clash on a regular basis, but this year’s event features meetings between schools that haven’t shared the hardwood in quite a while.

In the final game of the evening between host school Ontario (3-1) and Ashland (1-2) at 8 pm, fans will watch just the fifth meeting between these two nearby programs and the first since 1992.

When Shelby (3-3) and Mansfield Senior (5-1) go head to head in the events previous matchup at 6 pm, it will be the first time since 1993 the Tygers and Whippets have faced each other.

Rounding out the challenge will be Galion (2-4) vs Madison (1-4) at 4 pm with Clear Fork (5-1) taking on Mansfield Christian (0-6) to kick of the day at 2 pm.
